ABOUT JOE KORT
Founding Director, psychotherapist, coach and author Joe Kort, Ph.D., LMSW has been in practice since 1985. Dr. Kort graduated from Michigan State University with dual majors in psychology and social work. At Wayne State University, he earned his master’s degree in social work (MSW), then a master’s (MA) in psychology. He received a doctorate (Ph.D.) in clinical sexology from the American Academy of Clinical Sexologists. He is an adjunct professor at Wayne State University’s School of Social Work. He is also a published author and recognized national speaker.
Dr. Kort has successfully worked with many individuals and couples to improve their lives and relationships utilizing various therapy modalities as needed or as desired by the client. He is certified in Imago Relationship Therapy, which is a specific program involving communication exercises designed for couples to enhance their relationship and for singles to learn relationship skills. This program is based on the books "Getting The Love You Want" and "Keeping The Love You Find" by Dr. Harville Hendrix.
Dr. Kort is also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) which is a rapid, safe and effective treatment that does not involve the use of drugs or hypnosis. Patients who have suffered for years from anxiety or distressing memories, nightmares, insomnia, abuse or other traumatic events have found relief through EMDR. He is currently the only CRSH therapist offering this treatment. Historically fewer therapy sessions are required but, currently, insurance is not accepted for this treatment.
Dr. Kort is also a Board Certified Sexologist, specializing in sexual health therapy, including dysfunctions, out-of-control sexual behavior and sexual identity issues.
Individual & couples counseling, workshops, long distance coaching, and intensives are offered by Dr. Kort.
